Bauer Media
Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group institution which is the largest privately owned publishing group in Europe. They publish over 300 magazines across 15 different countries and also own radio stations, TV channels and websites. The two main sectors of this company are magazines and radio and they have been publishing magazines since 1953.
They have an impressive portfolio of magazines and they publish KERRANG!, Mojo and Q which are all incredibly popular and well known brands in the music industry. KERRANG! is a metal/alternative magazine which is aimed at teenagers and features many of the newer metal bands whereas Q is aimed at young-middle aged adults and features a wide range of popular artists from many different music genres. Mojo features more classic rock and so appeals to middle aged adults. KERRANG also has radio channels, TV channels and a website. Q is the UK’s biggest selling monthly music magazine and also has a website, radio station and awards. Mojo only has a website however it is the biggest worldwide selling UK music magazine.
I would choose Bauer Media to publish my magazine because the genre of my magazine is similar to KERRANG and also Mojo and so would fit in well with the brands that they already have. I think have a big company that appeal to mass markets will be better for my magazine because that is who I want it to appeal to, the target demographic is not small and therefore will not appeal to any niche markets. Bauer also has similar products to mine and will therefore know how best to reach my target audience. Also my magazine fits well into the style of theirs because the colour scheme of my magazine is predominently black, white and red as is KERRANG!, and Q and Mojo is always black and white so they are all similar.
I think my magazine could be expanded into a digital version for tablets and on the internet and also a website could be made so it is always easily accessible to the audience. It would also be beneficial to have a radio station to play the music features in my magazine to mkake other people want to read about the songs they have heard and maybe an awards ceremony to draw attention to the magazine and make bands feel that if they are featured in the magazine then it is an accomplishment and they may be shortlisted for an award.
